It has been a while.

Puck has been been keeping me very busy indeed. Last month, that is to say March, we had two exhibitions, our first collective show at C.AM.P. London, which set us up nicely for our second showcase at the rather grand Somerset House situated just by the Thames.

Pick Me Up was a rather splendid affair, getting plenty of great press and meeting some lovely people along the way.

I've been working a lot recently, but unfortunately serving alcoholic beverages to inebriated plebs, not actually being creative.

However, I have endeavored to do as many creative things at 60 Million as possible, most notable of late is a new sign for the A board outside. Hardly groundbreaking I know, but when you've had to explain that a '60 Million Postcards Burger' is in fact just a fucking beef burger and had Fruli mispronnounced 400 times a day, completing an A board feels like you've finished painting the Last Supper...

...Blimey it's been a while.

Been busy working full time in 60 Million Postcards, in which I'm slowly installing more and more of my work. Also met an excellent fellow, Mark Cox, with who I am starting a screen-printing studio with. More news and photos soon.

For now, here's part of an image for a band's myspace page. Not a great success but I like this part. Also for Helen, for who I may be designing her first tattoo in a similar style. Exciting stuff.

I recently sat in on a day of talks hosted by Greengaged, a sustainable design company, held by the Design Council. The talks were related to Design and Banking and how one could benefit each other (the majority being boring as fuck and totally over my head) and I was asked to illustrate something for each guest speaker. Here is one for a talk on the Brixton Pound, which will hopefully be on the Greenganged blog.

Here is a instax shot of my degree show. It occurred on the 5th of June to the 10th 2009. It included a screen-print inspired by the life and bicentennial of the great poet and novelist Edgar Allan Poe. It was a five colour screen-print on buff fabriano paper, measuring 1000 x 700mm.

Also included was the packaged Lola & Esq. scarf, a collaborative project with the extremely talented and lovely Lola Lollypop. There are photos to come, or alternatively check out the Lola&Esq blog, it aint 'alf a corker!

Yesterday I finished my degree. The feeling is immense.

We still have our degree show on the 5th of June, but until then, may the good times roll.

Progress

Over the weekend (the 3rd to the 6th of April, to be exact), a group of 44 other Graphic Communication students and I put on an exhibition at the Dray Walk Gallery, just off of Brick Lane, London.

The show was based around the theme of progression, however you may wish to interpret it. I decided to focus on the progression of contraptions used to implement Capital Punishment.

I screen-printed four images and constructed a book of these images with text.

The University set a brief to create an imaginary lecture poster for an artist or generally creative type for the 1st of April (get it?).

Needless to say, I chose Ian Curtis. Photos were originally for a friend's fashion shoot (hence the shirtlessness) but they seemed to work well enough for this.

Just before Christmas we held the second Bureau event. This time, people were encouraged to bring unwanted (but previously loved) items a few days prior to the event, and received a token in return for each item. My two fellow organisers (Lucy Aebischer and Jason Clark) and I screen-printed a roll of wrapping paper, and wrapped each gift, and planted it under the tree. Then every token could be redeemed for a mystery present.Anyway here is the poster, with a gloss over print and one of just the over print (so you can actually see what it is).

It has indeed been a while since my last post and of any substantial work.

A degree brings the trials and trivialities of writing a dissertation, but thankfully that task is over. Now we all have to contend with the fierce consumerist battle of pleasing our loved ones with bourgeois tokens of our undying love. Bring back the times of coal and satsumas.

But I digress. I am working on a project of redesigning and illustrating a collection of Edgar A. Poe's poems. Here is the poets heart in the clutches of a rather characterless vulture.

This isn't a finished image, more elements to add, but without the facilities of University, this is the best you're going to get. More things in the new year.

Here is a poster designed and screenprinted on A1 to advertise an event myself and a couple of lovely people set up. Basically a glorified swap shop, where students were asked to come along, bringing with them some brick-a-brac they no longer loved, in order to exchange for something else exciting, and also enjoying a friendly, creative environment. Plus, there was free cake.

Presented here, rather later than expected, is the front and back of a broadsheet made for a brief to create a Graphic Novel. This is screen-printed on newsprint, 1 of 30 prints on newsprint and writing paper. Overall size is A3, but folds down to A5 to store neatly in the document satchel of the everyday gentleman/gentle lady on their travels to inform and amuse.
